Writing Emmy
In writing Angels and Blackbirds, the second book of the Apples in the Dark series, my greatest concern was to give Emmy an authentic voice. Emmy’s understanding of language is
One factor in the books is Epilepsy. I developed Epilepsy when I was 12 or 13, and it wasn’t fully controlled until my late twenties. Both the condition and the severe medication used in the 1970s constrained my life when my peers were taking flight. After a gap of over fifty years since my Cardiff schooldays, I’m learning to speak Welsh again. And I rarely miss a day walking in the beautiful Welsh countryside, giving thanks for the small beauties (and big mountains) all around me.

Y dryw bach: the little Wren who shouts at me from the bushes.
Two novels of love, loyalty in extreme circumstances and unexpected insights, with just a touch of the supernatural. They draw on my personal and professional experiences. I’m currently writing a third novel featuring the same characters.

I’ve neglected my blog for too long – mainly because a lot has been happening! I’ve been writing Apples in the Dark 3 while doing final edits on Apples in
